Analogy and metaphors are two styles that are used in theology and writing. Sayer (1941), in demonstrating the creative mind, discusses the use of analogy in theology and artistic work. In theology, it is argued that man is created in the image of God. Further, Father Metaphor to describe God is analogous to the father in humankind who is careful, kind, forgiving, and unselfish. The Creator Metaphor of God is also analogous to how man continually create unique and new entities through rearrangement. In this spirit of metaphor and analogy, Sayer (1941) seeks to demonstrate the creative mind of an artist, especially a writer.
Artists, including poets can make something new out of nothing. In this regard, the act of creative artist is similar to the act of absolute creation, leading to the belief that God created the earth by imagination (Sayer, 1941). As a result, creative imagination informs the creation concept. Creative mind engages in creative imagination which reflects the Doctrine of Trinity with few exceptions.
Creative mind engages in an act of creation that is threefold. First, the Creative Idea is a timeless and passionless phase of creative imagination which is analogous to Image of the Father (Sayer, 1941). Second, Creative Energy or Activity represents the conscious form of the writer and can be manifested in material form. The phase of activity brings the writer’s book into spatial and temporal existence. Creative energy is actually the creator in that it helps the common man understand the idea of the writer. Thus, creative energy is analogous to the Image of the World. Last, Creative Power represents the impact of creative mind and imagination of the writer. In other words, it represents the response of the audience to the creative work of the writer.
Although there are tangible analogies between God the Father or Creator in theology and human creator, there are noticeable differences. For instance, the claim that God and His creation have mutual needs is not analogous to the human creator mind, especially the writer (Sayer, 1941). The expression of creative mind of a writer in material form does not necessarily mean the writer depends on material forms and audience for creative imagination. On the contrary, the artist expressing his idea on paper or book is just exercising his freedom of nature in relation to the existing law of his being. Therefore, arguing that God depends on His creation
