Technology Taking Over Our Lives
The technology it has taken lives of human beings in the world today. It has accumulated the most aspects of lives which include socially, politically, cultural and economic aspects. It has included the change in the face of communication in various areas for example in the business, management of different departments in the company. The thesis of the statement is that the use of technology which has improved through the invention of smartphones, beepers, the internet and the 3G/4G internet connections have changed the lives of the humans in the face of the communication and also in the entertainment. The passing of information in the modern world it has helped in the offering the best details concerning the business.
The onset of technology has, therefore, completely changed how people communicate, interact, make friends and keep their relationships alive. More so, this paradigm shift has been brought about by the advancements in technology, the increment in the social networking sites, and widespread use of the various technological applications (Turkle, 00:02,:59). However, there is also the question of whether these new technological forms have made human interaction easier or turned people into technology-robots? Psychologists such as Dr. Larry Rosen and Sherry Turkle have proven beyond reasonable doubt that indeed the technology- frenzy is more of an addiction than a platform that makes human interactions easier, and I am a living example of how wrong people can be addicted.
Technology has significantly improved the lives of the citizens through ensuring that people are well connected all the globe in cases where they transfer information to various places. The sharing of stories, pictures, experiences, video clips and news has turned people into sociable robots who cannot get off their phones. Personally, I can comfortably consider myself an Instagram addict.
I always reach out for my phone first thing in the morning as soon as I am up to check on all the new videos and photos that my buddies have made. Moreover, I refresh my homepage within every hour so that I can catch all the new posts that have been made (Rosen). At the end of the day, I go to bed not feeling guilty about wasting my time of it being on Instagram. There are times when I am even tempted to get on my phone while in the middle of the traffic; endangering my life. It is, therefore, quite a good indication that my addiction has taken a big effect on me. Looking around, most of the people close to me have the same tendency going on.
Most people are always on their phones and other media sources for various reasons on the different sites to ensure they don't miss out on anything whether for professional or personal purposes. There have been warnings by psychologists on the consequences of such behavior, and such include suppression of melatonin and reversed sleeping patterns (Techopedia). However, I still disregard the behavior of being on Instagram even while in bed and the lights are out, and in fact, I can say my sleepless nights are what out of what Rosen says to be the effects being addicted to phones. Recently, I went to sleep over at the friend's place after a party, and I noticed the same pattern of people sleeping next to their phones just so that no calls or texts pass them.
For anyone who is incapable of handling their life because social media is out of reach and who gets negatively affected when social media is out of order, they can comfortably be termed as a social media addict. As much as I hate it, Instagram has become a central tool in my life such that without it I constantly feel restless. Technology, therefore, brought its good share of social media introduction and creating a platform for people to interact, but, anyone whose life is dictated like me by these sites, so they need to take a good look into their lives and get their priorities straight.
From the increasing usage of technology and the rapid growth of technological developments like the improved cell phones, laptops, televisions and iPod that are most advanced. Technology is incising, intriguing and offering the world of unique possibilities to people of all backgrounds, cultures, and ages. These devices help people to stay connected at all times (Rosen). What initially used to weigh pounds and required a bulky charger to function now comfortably fits in pockets, comes with internet connectivity, processors and a longer battery life. With it is different and mind-blowing features, portability, and usefulness, cell phones have quickly become must-have devices. Cell phones are very useful devices in almost every sense, however; they have turned people into the new world.
Nomophobia, is the fear of having no mobile device, is on the rise Techopedia. In almost every street today, people are always on their phones chatting, messaging or emailing. Personally, my phone is my life; it helps me fight boredom, keeps me connected to my friends and even comes in handy during my class research projects. Today, Homophobes we can see everywhere, they experience high levels of anxiety when off, and their cell phones are very safe and comfortable outlets from life (Turkle). Cell phones have, therefore, become people's best friends that they would rather be on their phones all day than hold any real conversations with real people (Rosen).
For example, while in class, I always have this urge to look at my phone even in the middle of a lecture. With the new incorporation of computer features into cell phones such as video chats, Internet and Microsoft Word, people no longer see the need of making real life interactions. Relationships nowadays are created on cell phones and end on mobile phones as well. I tend to be a victim this large group of people who have made their cellphones their "gods."
Technology has significantly increased the amount of information available through the various websites such as Google and Wikipedia. In my opinion, these are among the most informative sites available (Sherry). They contain a pool of knowledge on literally everything. Personally, I do not visit these sites as often as Instagram, but they always c
