The Use of Ipads In Classrooms
Currently, the landscape of media is fast growing and changing at a pace that is increasingly affecting the education sector. All over the world, several schools have already strategized on how to improve the value of education by adding computers into classrooms. Numerous learning applications have been introduced in schools to enable effective transfer of subject matter through smart devices such as Apple’s Ipad. However, presently, there is still no reasonable inclusion of smart devices in schools. According to recent studies, educational apps are being evaluated and experimented for their effectiveness in class, and it has emerged that nearly all teaching tasks, curriculum concepts, and objectives can be achieved by the help of tablet computers (O’Hanlon, 2010). Therefore, if Ipads can be properly and successfully integrated into the classroom environment they can be a major boost to the sector of education.
Today, many schools worldwide are more focused on introducing tablets as part of their learning strategy. Undoubtedly, Ipads are very efficacious- they are light and instantaneously ready for operation. Ipads contain several applications which enhance various skills of learning such as reading, reasoning skills, and listening. Apple’s Ipad, the current trendsetter, is increasing getting used in schools with over 1.5million smart devices in the U.S education sector offering more than 20,000 applications for education. In Australia, many schools have launched projects in both primary and secondary schools to facilitate the introduction of Ipads into classroom (Huber, 2012). Several schools, especially in developed countries, have special focus on computer science and as a result they have started bring Ipads into the classroom environment.
In Quebec, Canada, over 6,000 students use touchpads in class. The Ipad’s strong penetration into classroom has emerged as a result of its appeal in regard to potential to motivate students to learn. There are more than 65,000 applications designed specifically for the Ipad and this has promoted various learning styles while ensuring all levels of the school curriculum are covered (Lynch & Redpath, 2012). For instance, the Nearpad is an app that is used by teachers to deliver a variety of content ranging from videos, quizzes, and info slides directly to the students’ Ipads. Students can then deliver responses and/or work back to their teacher via this app which can be stored and downloaded later as PDF report. Therefore, Ipads have improved the educational sector because only through the Ipad is this form of interaction possible.
Generally, Ipads have improved the level of literacy worldwide. Even the Ipad’s simplest features like the voice recorder have helped to improve the student’s fluency. Through the use of Ipad and airplay, teachers can demonstrate and record a procedure once so that it can be played again on a larger screen in order to allow students to view more clearly and discuss interactively (Audi & Gouia, 2013). Ipads offer interactive textbooks which ultimately foster the culture of smart reading among students. IBooKs Author is an example of interactive textbooks that feature videos, 3-D graphics, and can take notes. As a result, this has elevated the level of learning through participation and interaction.
Ipads and similar gadgets have been pronounced to stimulate students to experience things that they could otherwise not have experienced. Explaining the solar system and the arrangement of the planets around the sun is one such illustr...
