Export procedure
In the UAE the process of export begins with the exporter entering into an agreement with shipping agents to transport goods to the port of destination. The exporter then books the transport with the shipping agent.
Secondly, the shipping agent requests the DP to avail empty container to the exporter. This process is accomplished electronically using the Dubai Trade Portal. The shipping agent identifies the exporter and provides details of the container and outbound vessel. The third step requires the exporter to nominate the hauler via online means. The nomination process serves as a notice for picking and delivering empty container to the DP World.
Fourthly, the nominated haulier can access the Dubai Trade Portal. This step also involves the haulier generating e-Token that should be used to pick the empty container delivered by the DP world. Additional information that the haulier should avail includes estimated time of arrival and truck details to the DP world. The e-Token facilitates container movement in a seamless manner.
The fifth step involved the DP World ensuring that the entire loads and compliances of the empty container loaded on the haulier’s truck. The truck delivers the container to the warehouse of the exporter. In the sixth step, the exporter arranges the load in the container destined for export. The exporter also informs the Hauler about the arrangement.
The seventh step involves the hauler generating the e-Token for export container and picks the container from the warehouse of exporters, which is then delivered to the DP World. The eighth step involves the DP World ensuring that the entire compliances are met and off-load the export container in areas designated for loading as stated by the subject vessel.
The ninth step involves a parallel process in which the Exporter electronically submits Export declaration that includes invoice details. The Dubai customs approves the export declaration once it verifies its information.
In the tenth step, the exporter is expected to complete the formalities of inspection. The exporter then pays the DP world using online means. A parallel process proceeds in which the chamber of commerce issues the exporter the certificate of origin that is sent to the importer. The exporter further obtains additional permit regarding the type of goods. Before the exporter loads the containers on vessels, the DP World issues the export declaration upon ensuring the exporter complies with the document.
Lastly, the exporter receives the bill of lading from the shipping agent once the vessel leaves the port. The exporter sends the bill of lading and invoice to the importer to clear with the customs of the buying country.['Processes & Procedures' (Dubaitrade.ae, 2017) accessed 17 January 2017.]
Importation Procedure

Secondly, the importer settles any due and submits the bill of lading to the shipping agent based on the arrival date of the vessel. The shipping agent then issues the importer a delivery order.
The third step involves the Importer submitting the import declaration application to Dubai Trade website for clearance purposes with the Dubai customs. Using the CDR account, the importer pays customs duties. Besides, the importer needs to have commercial invoice, import permit, packing list, and certificate of origin to import goods into Dubai.
The fourth step involves the Dubai Customs verifying and evaluating the information provided in the documents to approve the import and acknowledge customs duties paid. The competency authority may inspect the cargo before releasing them to the exporter.
Upon receiving the delivery order from the shipping agent, the importer clears any DP World dues using the e-services payment.
The next step involves the Importer using the vessel inquiry e-services to check the vessel and u...
