Synopsis
Stan Allen book, Practice: Architecture, Technique and Representation give a mixture of theoretical essays. It explores extend by which means and ways available architectural representation and techniques affect the work of an architecture. The author’s work offers a demonstration on the way different representation models may be applied to affect the constructions. The architectural work is entirely seen to be affected by surrounding practices and as such, appearances of cities face similar effects from the environment in which they are built.
The author in his work strives to certify architecture as being an autonomous field that does not borrow knowledge from other fields. He asserts that materials used by architects are enough to build an enriched body of knowledge for the field of study. His work has been classified into three parts of representation, buildings and media. Media plays a role of computer-aided architectural designs to give a picture of how representations and buildings would look like through photographs.
