Abraham Lincoln is a household name in every part of the US. Historians will attest to the fact that there was a period when all students took note of Abraham Lincoln as the "Great Emancipator" who managed to free those marked as slaves during his period of civil war. Lincoln widely applied emancipation proclamation as a way achieving his main goal of freeing slaves. As a matter of fact, Lincoln was much focused on a society of zero slavery. Throughout his operation, Lincoln had both defenders and critics. The critics openly claimed that Lincoln has no passion and commitment to ending slavery as claimed by himself and defenders as well. Across the globe, civil wars have been characterized by encounters between unions, ad hoc groups, and legislatures as well. Lincoln is marked as one of the most strategic civil war leaders. One the key strategies applied by Lincoln was convincing the legislatures of slaves states to steer the change of laws governing slavery. Lincoln was very much aware of the fact the constitution left the matters of slavery to the states since not all states had slaves. Emancipation according to Lincoln and the team did not require the attention of the federal government. The idea of leaving the legislation to the states offered the best opportunity of keeping the issues of Emancipation away from the federal government discussions (Woog, 2010). According to Lincoln and the team, involving the federal government on Emancipation discussions were bound to receive unfavorable decisions or judgment. Like any other move, Emancipation was meant to attract consequences both severe and favorable. However, the strategy deployed by Lincoln was a clear indication of lack of concern about the implications of the proposal at the beginning of his term. The entire goal of Lincoln was to end slavery, based on this it was vital to steer the move and meet the consequences in the process. Historians term Lincoln as the leader who believed in achieving. Based on this unique but vital quality, Lincoln strongly felt had the will and time to prevent further expansion of slavery in part of the US. According to Lincoln, allowing slavery to seed or gain further grounds would mean it was becoming a federal government issue thus creating a difficult situation in trying to end. In his efforts, Lincoln used Emancipation to prevent expansion of slavery before pushing for the ultimate ending of what was a vice and negative impact on the beauty of the US society (Landau, 2008).
