The period from 1865 was a tough period for the US people and the nation as one president was impeached and another one impeached while the federal government encountered a revolt in the occupation of Wounded Knee. There was a revolt in Wounded Knee which witnessed the deaths of a lot of Indians and thus the federal government tried to resolve this situation by trying to blame the activists and eventually cordoning off the area. The Nixon administration wanted to cut off tribal ties which were further worsened by the media. Lincoln had tried to end slavery and thus the Nixon regime wanted to solve the issue in Wounded Knee and ensure that there was a peaceful co-existence regardless of the tribal lines. The federal government wanted to swoop in and resolve the problem and thus it tried to influence the Indian policies and curb the constant resistant from the Indian Americans. Nixon wanted to break tribal ties and incorporate an integrationist movement by changing the federal Indian Policy.
