Rubric-
The following rubric will apply to all the exam essays and the paper in this course:
A- to A+ = Student answers all parts of the question fully, including meaningful references to all of the images and text selections included in the prompt with the question. The student also provides specific historical context and brings in information and arguments not included in the question or test packet taken from the readings and the lectures. Arguments are relevant, logical, coherent, and comprehensive. These answers will show a very good to exceptional sense of the context – who, what, where and when – of the topic under consideration, as well as a very good to exceptional sense of the historical significance of the topic at hand, i.e., how people experienced history at the time and why it matters to us as students of history.
B- to B+= Student answers all parts of the question, but there are minor problems, meaning that they include only general historical context from the book and lectures, their argument has minor flaws in logic, falls off topic at one point, or is missing a minor point. These answers will show a good to very good sense of the context – who, what, where and when – of the topic under consideration, as well as a good to very good sense of the historical significance of the topic at hand (as defined above).
OR
The student answers most parts of the question very well, with good background information and a strong argument, but leaves out a small part of the answer. These answers will show a good to very good sense of the context – who, what, where and when – of the topic under consideration, as well as a good to very good sense of the historical significance of the topic at hand.
C- to C+= The student answers all or most parts of the question, but with missing or inaccurate background information or an argument that is in some way illogical or incomplete. These answers demonstrate an understanding of subject and are generally relevant, though lacking in detail. The student might fail to connect his or her answer to the document(s) related to the question, or he or she might not connect the specific problem in the image to the larger relevant theme of the course. These answers will show a fair to good sense of the context – who, what, where and when – of the topic under consideration, as well as a fair to good sense of the historical significance of the topic at hand.

The first and second world wars created a platform for nations to display their military power. As countries fought in wars that were believed to be the only channel to end all future wars, the revealing of military prowess and ability became the main focus of attention. The possibility of peace was overlooked, and war graduated into a rivalry. Thus, the united states and the Soviet Union, due to their powerful case presented in the Second World War, became the world’s most powerful nations. Nonetheless, the two countries never coexisted in peace because each wanted to be recognized as being more potent than the other. The rivalry that resulted between the two nations is what is historically known as the Cold War. This was a period of political and military tension between the US and the USSR, now referred to as Russia. The direct consequence of the political and military rivalry was the metamorphosis of foreign policies and social structures.
The increased global spread of the communism philosophy that was spread by the Society Union was the primary effect of the Cold War on the American Domestic Policy. While the US believed in a philosophy of capitalism to promote individual hard work in nation-building, the Soviet Union thought communism was the best approach to nation-building. Thus, while Russia spread the communist belief, the United States of America was compelled to protect itself from external influence and contain the establishment of communism among its population (Westen 2020). In fear that some Americans had come to support the communist party, the US government declared struct measures to uproot the theology from within its borders and hinder further infiltration.
The Executive Order of 1947 was the first anti-communist measure declared by President Harry Truman. The order announced a careful investigation of people working for the government to ensure they were loyal to the United States' philosophy. Thus, the order was locally known as the Loyalty Review Board. It stated that there would be a loyalty investigation planned to interrogate every civil employee or agent of the Executive arm of the Federal Government. According to the declaration, any employee that supported a foreign or domestic organization, movement, or association termed by the national Attorney General as totalitarian, communist or fascist would be considered disloyal to the administration and, therefore, subject to punishment. By this declaration, the President of the united states intended to uproot any traces of communist belief and philosophy from the united states and reinforce airtight measures on the possibility of communist infiltration in the united states.[.
