The Scrolls of Mongol Invasion enables a better understanding of the history of Japan because they provide information about the past events that are not available in web sites or printed media such as those that were printed in artistry works, pictures, and sculptures. It creates a database of the collection of historical events that occurred in Japan in the early years such as the social, economic, and political conditions in Japan.
The scrolls provide different forms of historical information about Japan such as the wars that took place in the 13th century in which the Japanese under the leadership of their warrior, Takezaki Suenaga fought against the Mongols. Most of the events that took place during this period were based on word-of mouth transfer of information until the scrolls were rediscovered in the 18th century when they were used to record the historical events. Most of the scrolls were lost and some rediscovered in the oceans but could be restored to provide an insight regarding the historical events that happened in Japan. Other forms of information were added to the scrolls at a later date that provided an understanding of the activities that took place in the previous centuries in Japan.
The main forms of historical information that are common in scrolls are the activities of war such as those involving Japanese and other communities or people from a different country, the existence of cultural practices such as the ways of life and the cultural practices in among the people of Ancient Japan, and the political organization of the people. Scrolls can also provide an understanding of the economic activities of the people such as handcrafts, trade, and construction culture in the past centuries.
The painting and commissioning of scrolls was done by samurai Takezaki Suenaga for the purpose of recording the activities that took place at the battle field valor when Mongols invaded Japan. The actual author of the scrolls is not known but they are composed of images involving the Mongols and the warriors who protected Japan from the invasion.
