CULTURE SPECIFIC ILLNESSES
Some types of illnesses are confined to specific cultures in the world. Because of the exceptional environmental circumstances and cultural practices of these societies, these illnesses are known as culture-specific diseases (Baer, 2013). Irrespective of their culture-bound syndromes, some cause serious health issues while others are fatal or minor. Families response mechanisms in these cultures are explicitly or implicitly a critical social unit influenced by culture. For instance, in Northwestern Ethiopia, their casual beliefs on the significance of treatment diseases are unique(Baer, 2013). Mental illnesses caused by several aspects are explicitly characteristic in society. The influence is associated with biomedical defects, supernatural retribution, psychosocial stressors, including the socio-environmental deprivation, among others. As a way of responding to these illnesses, the Northwestern Ethiopia culture prays instead of physically treating these ailments hoping for cure or healing (Baer, 2013). The systemic approach within their cultural settings, attitudes, and treatment beliefs are motivating factors behind this therapeutic approach. Also, the educational awareness is part to blame for such understanding with the casual views taking center stage on their attitudes towards mentally ill patients. However, there is an interconnection on the influencing factors of the northwestern Ethiopians in response to these illnesses (Baer, 2013). The perceived significance of the available treatments and attitude towards patients remain interconnected with negative implications on health care pro-life initiatives.
