The immortality of the Soul (Metaphysics-Plato)
In illustrating the concept of the mortality of the soul, Plato gives an ideal dialogue called “The Phaedo”. The Phaedo is a plutonic dialogue that relates the conversation between Socrates and his friend on the day of his execution. Given the circumstances, the conversation naturally turned to the question of death, the soul, and the afterlife. Socrates tells his friends that he is cheerful at the thought of death. Before the conversation starts, Socrates tells his friends that “I desire to prove to you that the real philosopher has to be of good cheers when he is about to die and that after death, he may hope to obtain the greatest in the other world”. According to Socrates, man can only achieve maximum wisdom after their death, because it is only then that the mind is deliberated from the destructions of the body.[Sedley, David. "Platonic causes."
