Nicholas Rescher’s Process of Philosophy explores the historical origins of “process philosophy”- one of the domestic movements. The article depicts an in-depth examination of the contribution of the such domestic movement to a comprehension of nature as well as human nature. While examining the movement’s historical backgrounds, the author reflects on the works of such philosophers as Leibniz, Heracleitus, Peirce, Bergson, William, A.N. Whitehead and James. This paper explores the process philosophy as a philosophical method as depicted in the article.
Process philosophy is a philosophical method that views experiential events, comprehended as actual instances, not materials, as essential. Moreover, the philosophical method implies conscious alertness as a sequence of experiential events, each of which has temporal as well as spatial extension. Process philosophy is embodied by an effort to reconcile the various intuitions found in human experience, for instance, religious, aesthetic and scientific, into holistic scheme. The reconciliation of such intuitions of subjectivity and objectivity, with great concern for scientific postulates, yields the explicitly metaphysical speculation and the world, at its most fundamental level, which is made up of momentary events rather than the enduring material substances. Furthermore, process philosophy considers the momentary events as essentially experimental and self-determining as well as internally connected to one another. On the other hand, the belief that God is an actual entity is embodied in the process philosophy, therefore the through such interconnectivity of intuitions that process philosophy achieves, it can solve some of the philosophical problems.[. The experience offers an individual with the raw data for processing his or her theories. At this point, thought takes off to reach speculation heights. Then, an individual uses rational criteria as well as imagination to synthesize facts and ideas into reality woven in systematic worldview. Through hypothesis and speculations, a person will now be able to answer the questions regarding reality and experience.[. Ibid, 18-23.]
This method was developed by the philosopher Alfred North Whitehead back in 1861. The philosopher used it for philosophical traditions that highlights the facts about becoming as well as changing over static beings. Whitehead developed process philosophy to seek a rebirth of the neo-classical realism which avoids the subjectivism while embracing the intuitions of subjectivity and objectivity regarding the scientific findings.
Process philosophy can be applied in real life situation. For instance, it can be used to solve the issue of climate change. Process philosopher are committed to living with care and respect for the whole community of life while helping build societies that are highly creative, empathetic, unbiased, participatory, equitable, multicultural, compassionate to animals, as well as ecologically and environ...
