The nation became a global leader in technological, economic, cultural, and military affairs (Halliwell & Catherine 2008, 23). Importantly, the American society changed from traditional isolationism to global involvement. Firstly, civilians worked on the home front in different community roles such as nursing (Higgs 2013, 77).
