The sample is about gestures and culture. the assignment details required writing at least 2 pages about non-verbal cues and how gestures are used in asian, european, and african cultures. the instructions also required the student to write about use of gestures in his culture and how it differs with that of others. the requirement was to answer the questions in an essay format.

Gestures and Culture
Gestures are undeniably important nonverbal language communication, but their meaning varies across cultural groups. Culture edicts our actions, how we behave is determined by societal norms. But, head movements, arm movements, handshake and postures perceived as norms in one culture, may be intimidating to others. Nonverbal communication is helpful in revealing expressions and feelings. Although nonverbal cues supports and enhances language, they can contradict or interfere with a verbal message.
