Direct democracy is a pipe-dream. It sounds good, but it will never work'
Direct democracy refers to a government that is said to be by people for the people. In this government, people make decisions for themselves rather than the representatives coming up with the decisions. There are people who argue out that democracy empowers in the sense that it enables people to have control over their lives where they join hands with others with an aim of changing the way it’s works. One clear fact with democracy is that is requires one to be accountable. Therefore, by considering what direct democracy advocates for it is clear that it is a is a pipe-dream. It sounds good, but it can never work.
The points below are clear evidence to then argument given above
The representatives of democracy in a government that supports direct democracy can only be able to stand for the will of the large voting bloc with unreliable degrees. This type of government is not likely to work out well beyond a small community. In small communities every person is aware, and discourse that is legitimate has a likelihood of being made within a setting that everyone holds the same context to view a certain issue from. In a wider scale direct government gives people power to vote for things that they do not understand which is instead directed to all sorts of fun. In this case fun means the oppression the minority groups are likely to experience in this kind of government.
The most genuine political views in this case are steered by the idea that every person in the society should receive treatments as a person with the right to a life that is full of happiness. Therefore if the system of direct democracy can not be able to provide this to its people it should be thrown out entirely. Direct democracy gives all of its power to the majority meaning that it would be very difficult to pass on important aspects of the government that enables a state to grow and develop. One thing to note is that the minorities are not protected by representative voting, but fundamental rights that are essential to the qualified majority.
Some other facts that make direct democracy remain as a dream includes; increase in cost of running government whereby aspects such as referendums would increase. There is a group of people who would become more politically active compared to others. Finally, the decision made by people will be prone to government and media attempts to influence them either way.
