GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
There is a mixed reaction on the adoption of GMO crop production in most first world countries due to different perception of GMO crop product either on health of citizens or economic stability of the country. Among the first world countries, USA is rated first worldwide on the first world countries to adopt large scale GMO production while Europe shows slow adoption due to restriction that ban crop production of GMO due to misconception attached to GMO products. However, in the wider scope there is small proportion of first world countries that has adopted GMO crop production is 48% of the total adopters compared to developing world which is estimated to be 52% of the total adopters of the GMO production (Kay and Van, 2001).
The reason always raised against GMO is that it has health issues such as cancer according to Vandana "GE crops cannot feed the world, it has the potential for harming the world and enslaving the world." (Vandana Shiva, N. 2011). Another reason is that, the presence of GMO product can cause instability in economy due drop in price of food stuff due to excess production. The above reasons are proved to be wrong and misleading since there is no substantial research that shows any health issues associated with use of GMO product.
There are ethical issues associated to adoption of GMO but medical issues have not yet been reported. Ethical issues include monopoly power by the private sector who are concerned with ...
