On the 7th of February 2019, the share price of Twitter declined to approximately ten percent. This was experienced despite concerns from the social media company proprietors about a drop in the number of monthly users. It was reported that Twitter recorded 321 million monthly active users in the fourth quarter of 2018 as compared to 330 million in the previous quarter. The decline in share price can be associated with Twitter’s announcement that expenses will upsurge to 20% in the current financial year and CEO Jack Dorsey’s strategy of promoting healthier users engagement. In what seems to be a continuous operation, the company has been getting rid of fake and abusive user’s accounts (Feiner). This operation was a necessary step in reducing the use of the social media platform for misinformation.
