Should Athletes who Dope have to Forfeit their Titles and Medals?
The Olympic Games has "faster, higher, and stronger" as its motto that guides it. The aim of this motto is to have something that is aspired as well as admired by the society as a whole. If there is an athlete who runs faster than others, there will be young boys and girls who will be trying to run as faster as they can to recess him. These young children will have a healthier and happier life in their entire lives. This is the value that the Olympics have tried to safeguard in the society: it is not about which records are being broken, but the energy and excellence it creates. If the Olympics were all about breaking records and gaining fame on the planet, then doping and other means of cheating in the games could have been allowed. However, sports are all about the human health and taking the body to great potentials without hurting it. Olympics is about the human health, fair play, role model and equitable presentation of countries. Therefore, doping is not allowed in the games, and those athletes who are caught of doping should have to forfeit the titles and medals.
Fair play is imperative since it involves a proper representation of one's country in the games. Doping creates unfairness in the games since there are others who might have been genuinely and worked hard to present their countries in the Olympics. If one is found of doping will create controversy to their countries and even have it banned from the Olympics for a couple of years. Patriotism is all about being proud of your country and representing it in fair means at the events. Those who dope are not patriotic to their countries; they only love themselves instead. Therefore, those who dope should forfeit their medals and titles to pave a way for those who can represent their countries in a genuine manner to avoid controversies.
The moment the athletes make that decision to compete in the Olympics, they become role models not only for their children but the whole society. Some kids will want to be like them in the future. If the children realize that they athletes use drugs they may start doing them too so as to be like them. This is not moral to the society. It will have people who will be depending on dubious ways to get what they want. A real role model should mentor others in the right ways and show them that everything is possible if they give their energy to it. Therefore, those who dope should forfeit their titles to show the kids that breaking the law has its consequences.
