Christiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese football player who plays for Real Madrid football club in Spain. He runs a facebook account on facebook that is the most liked personal page with over 59 million followers while he has over 19 million followers on tweeter (Asante, 2013). In May 2013, he was announced as the most popular sports person in the internet.
Through social media, Christiano Ronaldo has is able to interact with his fans, where tweets and makes facebook updates that bring his fans in terms with his daily operations. Probably that is one of the factors that have seen his fan base rise over time to exceed that of the other peer footballers like Lionel Messi (Asante, 2013). The other way that Christiano Ronaldo has used social media is to advertise for his sponsors and sports team. He uploads his pictures in his football team t shirts or those with logos of his sponsors such as Adidas which is a very good marketing strategy for these two groups of people. The third use of facebook that he uses is passing important information to his fans. For example, it is through his facebpook account where he announced signing a new contract with Real Madrid and Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial match details. This shows how effective social media has helped him to interact with his fans.
From how Cristiano Ronaldo has used social media, one can conclude that he has been successful and reaped most of the benefits of social media.
