The labor market for nurses is a unique one due to the fact that the demand for nurses has been outstripping the supply for many years all over the world. This is because there has been a steady increase in the demand for the services provided by the nurses as a result of an increase in the world’s population. In the USA, the trend has been the same with California-the state with the largest labor market in the country- exhibiting the same characteristics. This paper explores the behavior in the labor market for nurses particularly in California, it analyzes the factors that determine the supply and demand for nurses in California as well as how the wages for nurses are determined in the state. The increase in the deficit of nurses in California is probably an issue that has to be addressed if the welfare of the state’s citizens has to be improved.
