Introduction
Social network refers to tools of communication that are used on a global scale and examples include Facebook and Twitter (Chi 6). Social network poses both a benefit and a risk to the firm. The benefits are that social networks provide a platform for communication and helps connect the world at a very low or no cost at all. On the other hand, abuse of social networking by employees threaten the operations of the firm (Chi 7). Abuse of social media in the workplace is eliminated by providing policies that govern its usage while in the firm and also during the employees’ own time.
Policies to ensure safe usage
A complete ban on social networking by employees is not practical. Therefore, the management should come up with policies to regulate and promote safe use of social media. This includes educating people on safe use. The firm can also block access to social media in the company network. This works to reduce time wasted on social media and prevents leakage of sensitive information through the internet. The firm should enact a policy with guidelines for use of social media and possible legal implications if the employees do not abide by the rules (Chi 13). This policy will enact time policies and safe use by employees.

Passing of sensitive information regarding the firm using social media poses a great threat to the organization.
