Appropriate Age to Allow Children and Young Adults to Use Social Media (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

Many people disagree about the appropriate age to allow children and young adults to use social media.Including citations, develop a claim with reasons and evidence, and also a counterclaim to argue..
Parents who are concerned about the dangers of social media would argue that using children is not an issue of concern because they can control their children’s use online or otherwise.
However, this position ignores the fact that there can be no guarantee that parents will take care of their children if they have access to such tools. I believe that children should be able to use social media but this does not mean a person should control them online. Some people may think too much about what kids should and should not do online. In addition, some parents fear for their children’s safety when their social media accounts are public in nature (Kolb & Lammers, 2005). This leads me to my second counterclaim and why the first claim is invalid. As stated earlier, if parents have access to their child’s account, it means that someone has got access to the children’s confidential information. Therefore, while some parents might want to keep their children safe online, others would like their children or even people they know to stay away from Facebook as they have seen how dangerous social media can be. This essay focuses on both sides of this argument and gives reasons for each side.
