The video brings the light the effect food borne illness have on households in America. For a long time, this issue has not been taken seriously since undertaken research that modern medicine can easily address it. However, the bacteria from food especially poultry based have evolved in resistance and not stand to be one of the most dangerous causes of death. To bring this issue to light, the video gives a case of a small boy who had to undergo lifesaving surgery to treat his illness emanating from salmonella.
Scientists have as a result undertaken research under the department of health which later revealed that the core sources of this salmonella is Foster farms that supply poultry to various food chains across the country. The supply of poultry has become more industrial in nature and safety of the meat is not more compromised. This looming gap in the production has led to the various bacterial strains to thrive in meat supplied to various stores. Steps were then taken to ensure public safety to avoid any disease outbreaks from this. That said, however, salmonella has continued to cause various food-related illnesses from poultry based products.
This disease outbreak and reported mortality cases continue to persist despite oversight by food inspection authorities and public health monitoring. Experts say that the prevalence of Salmonella remains and the cases of illness continue to rise. Further, there are reported strains of Salmonella are highly dangerous. Interviews conducted on the various experts on the industry reveal that there is still much more measures that the government and the industry or company officials can take to prevent contamination of poultry by various forms of bacteria.
There is also the worry that the public is not very informed on the effect salmonella can have on them. This was exacerbated by the state that many refuse to get treatment based on the assumption that this is simple food poisoning that will pass. What is evident that there is a breakdown in the system with poultry producers assigning blame to the consumers for lack to handling and cooking food to the expectedstandard. The authorities have also failed the public in the sense that they regular tests fail to detect Salmonella in the poultry.
Consumption of contaminated food has its repercussions. This problem affects both developed and developing countries. Foodborne illness can be prevented in the following ways. Separate raw food from cooked food. It is important to separate the type of food available in the house, food such as poultry, raw meat and seafood should be kept in a different location from vegetables and other types of food.
