Today, despite the fact that most of the young people usually have a lot of work to do in especially in school, they still have free time to do other things. Taking this into consideration, it is of paramount importance for them to engage in productive activities. This is because those who fail to have anything to do may end up engaging in immoral activities such as drug abuse (Byrne 59). These unhealthy activities may affect their lives to a significant extent. There is a wide range of things that young people should consider doing during their free time. Some of the most significant ones include sport activities, reading and music.
Young people can opt for sport activities to exercise when they are free. There are various sporting activities that can be very instrumental in one’s fitness. The activity should not necessarily require financial investment. For instance, one can exercise using track and field, which can be practiced at one’s convenience. Exercise is important in improving a person’s health, as well as reducing the risk of developing diseases that include diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease (Rahl 4). Apart from this, exercises help make muscles stronger. This involves push-ups as well as lifting weights. Exercising also helps young people improve their talent in different sporting activities. This is crucial in nurturing one’s talent.
Reading is a very important in improving one’s academic performance. Most young people like using their free time going out and having fun thus spending little of this time on their books. However, one could make this time help in academics. It can help young people gain truths and concepts when they choose their books appropriately. For instance, books help in providing reinforcement and consistency. Apart from academics only, books can be a very good source of general knowledge that can provide good basis on constructive interactions with other people (Preddy 220). Moreover, when a young people are preparing for college, they can increase their knowledge on the courses they expect to join by researching more on them. Young people should also engage themselves with religious materials that will help them improve their faith.
When it comes to music, it is true that it is usually one of the most powerful forces in the lives of young people (Szafraniec 157). This is because it assists them in acquiring useful skills in arts. In addition, music usually helps young people academically as it enhances their memorizing power. This becomes more effective particularly when music comes hand in hand with various musical instruments such as guitar and piano. Learning how to play these instruments is a major breakthrough in most young children (Byrne 59). This is because it gives them the ability to portray their talents as well as ability.
