Life Interview
Emerging Adult (18-26)
The first interviewee was a single 24 year old college student. Being an emerging adult and also a young lady, she looked trendy and attractive. She seemed a well-organized person and quite happy with her life. Her mannerisms during the interview showed her calm and relaxed personality. Moreover, she appeared intelligent and physically functioning right. The interviewee’s responses were detailed as she seemed delighted to talk. Owing to the fact that the interview was conducted at her college room, she was absolutely comfortable throughout the interview as all her responses were well guarded not to delve deeper into her personality. Her room also seemed well arranged and organized since everything was in place. The interview took approximately one hour and everything flowed with how the interviewee responded.
The first question posed to the interviewee was concerning her physical abilities, to which she responded stating that she plays lawn tennis and attends an aerobics gym session at the college gym. She further added that she observes what she eats in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep her body shape. Moreover, the interviewee stated that working out, observing what she eats, and undertaking regular exercises are important activities to her life. Concerning her feelings about her looks, she noted that how she looked as a young lady is number one priority for her. She attributed her attractive physical appearance to her regular aerobics workouts and exercises. Looking at herself at age 40 or 60, the interviewee noted that she sees her physical appearance changing as her age advances.
According to the interviewee, there are various personal concerns that she openly discussed even though it was not necessary as personal questions were not posed. She stated that she was struggling with drug addiction as well as eating and sleeping disorders. She calmly admitted that she was introduced to alcohol drinking and cigarette smoking while still at her high school years. Peer pressure and influence from her roommate, she noted, further pushed her deeper into binge drinking at parties they attend during the weekends at the college. Despite observing that she did not look much of an addict owing to the fact that her room did not have any signs of alcohol bottles or cigarettes. Moreover, the interviewee noted that most of her peers at the college were also struggling with various addictions to a wide array of drugs. Additionally, after being asked what she thinks of how important looks or fitness is to the people of her age, she responded stating that for emerging adults life was a bit tough due to the transition into adulthood. She, however, opined that young ladies of her age were very keen on their looks and they worked out to maintain their appearances.
Concerning her intellectual abilities, the interviewee disclosed that she believes that she has special skills in writing poems and music lyrics. Indeed, even without asking, she appeared intelligent and bright as one could tell depending on how she was responding to the questions asked. However, when the question regarding if she thinks about her being bright was posed, she noted that she believes she is but it depends on what other people think of her as everyone is entitled to his/her opinion about another person. Furthermore, the interviewee’s thought about her future intellectual abilities was that as one grows older life experiences and intelligence also becomes higher. Also, her views regarding how she is doing at school were that she is currently not doing very well as she is still struggling to reform and recover from drugs abuse that had made her not to realize her full academic potential. The interviewee’s suggestion concerning how she feels about her teachers and the college was that the system of education needs change due to the numerous standardized tests that does not leave enough time for the students to effectively study and learn. Additionally, the respondent agreed that being intelligent and doing well in school were crucial to every person of her age.
The interviewee declined to share her views concerning her personality and relationships but did not offer any reason for declining. However, she extensively discussed her feelings about the life stage that she is in. Most importantly, she observed that there are various relevant things to her at her current stage of life which include her education, future career, and the kind of relationships she intends to maintain into the future. Even without being asked, the interviewee stated that being at her age felt well because it had so many good points such as planning for her future life and career. Moreover, she made an observation that at that age, there are numerous challenges that one may encounter, especially being a young lady. For instance, the interviewee stated that being her age required stable psychological conditions as it is the point when an individual has to make important decisions that may make or break her future life.
Older Adult (60-85)
The second interviewee was a 65 year’s old retired military officer. At his age, he looked a bit elderly but physically fit. He was well groomed and displayed high morals and courtesy. The interview venue was at a downtown restaurant where the interviewee liked to hang out every evening after completing his daily duties at his home. He also seemed happy and well-functioning cognitively and physically. The fact that he served in the military reveals a lot about his physique and discipline. At the interview venue, the respondent was a regular due to the numerous friends who appeared well-acquainted to him. The venue was also comfortable both to the interviewer and the interviewee.
When he was asked about his physical abilities, looks and appearance, the interviewee noted that he has a gym at home that keeps him fit and he also plays baseball with his grandchildren regularly. Moreover, he stated that the rigorous physical training that a military officer undergoes while still at the army shapes an individual’s working out routine that one maintains every day. He also maintained that what one eats is important in ensuring the health and physical appearance of a person, be it a man or a woman.
At his age, however, he noted that physical appearance was not of so much concern, contrary to when one is at his youthful years. Hence, physical appearance was not a number one priority to the interviewee, however, maintaining a healthy lifestyle was paramount. Even though his wrinkles were not quite showing on the face, he stated that having wrinkles are the most bothersome signs of aging that troubles him. Moreover, the interviewee stated ...
