Arising mainly from the miniaturization of digital devices, blending education and technology makes learning easier in multiple contexts but requires students to acquire atypical technological skills.
One of the leading ways technology aids learning is by making education more engaging. According to Ghory and Ghafory, students possess varying learning styles and needs, affecting their overall in-classroom engagement level (169). For example, some learners consider making verbal classroom contributions intimidating, while others do so with relative ease. Resultantly, the affected students portray minimal active participation even when they genuinely want to express a disparate opinion regarding the topic or seek further elucidation on complex subjects. However, technology rectifies the problem by digitizing learning materials and packaging them interactively using portable electronic pads and presentation software, making education more exciting and amplifying student engagement.
Additionally, modern technology significantly eases learning by facilitating self-paced education. Ordinarily, education’s comparatively rigid curriculums heighten students’ comprehension disparity, reducing learning efficiency (Khan et al., 236). Although contestably effective, requiring students to attend a rarely invariable academic process disenfranchises slow learners, impeding access to quality education. Nevertheless, technology’s increasing accessibility and affordability promote the mitigation of such learning discrepancies by allowing educational practitioners to develop, benchmark, and dispense personalized teaching programs. Consequently, the education curriculum becomes more flexible, enabling learners to interact with diverse educational materials without unnecessary haste.
Moreover, technology simplifies learning by enriching academic productivity through optimum collaboration. Tuma argues that the overwhelming complexity of learning materials, including insufficient levels of instructor-led support, significantly deadens educational productivity (232). Usually, the problem emanates from the remarkably constricted scope of instructional items like course books and a marked shortage of competent teachers. Consequently, learners routinely encounter exposition challenges, especially when dealing with ambiguous academic topics. Nowadays, technology eradicates this hindrance by gamifying complex learning concepts, allowing students and teachers to communicate easily and in real-time. The increased interaction efficiency promotes collaboration, improving the aggregate academic performance.
Although technology significantly improves learning, it inadvertently forces students to acquire new digital aptitudes.
