The US government questions the ability of Nigeria to rescue hostages
The extremist group Boko Haram last month abducted more than 260 school going girls. Some members of the congress are of the idea that the US government should do more to help free the abducted girls. The US government has so far offered to help Nigeria in rescuing the girls. The white house spokesperson has said that the US forces will not be deployed in the rescuing of the girls. This comes after some members of the pentagon question the ability of the Nigerian military to undertake the rescue mission.
The US government has so far sent 30 specialists from the federal investigation bureau (FBI) the state department and the pentagon to help in the rescuing the girls. The US government through one of its military chiefs has voiced concerns about the ability of the American forces to rescue every abducted person in the world. The government is also finding it difficult to work with the Nigerian military due to its involvement in gross human rights violations. The US government has also defended itself by saying that it had warned the Nigerian government on its approach towards the Boko Haram group.

The number of people applying for unemployment benefits drops
According to the US Labor Department, the number of people applying for unemployment benefits has dropped significantly. This has been the lowest number recorded in 7 years. The number of people applying for unemployment benefits has been on the rise from the onset of the recession back in the year 2007. The labor department has this year quoted 270,000 applications for people seeking unemployment benefits.
The labor department has attributed this to the ability of the economy to employ more people. This is also evidence that employers are cutting fewer jobs. The number is expected to reduce even further as the government puts in place measures to grow the American economy. Unemployment benefits are usually provided by the government to ensure that those people who are not able to secure employment opportunities can still be able to live a comfortable live as they look for employment.
