Benefits and drawbacks of being a twin
Twins stir different emotions to different people. Some people find it amusing to see identical people with similar features walking around with probably similar walking style and voices. One of the thrilling mysteries linked with twins is that they share a unique connection afar that of normal siblings. While the twin connection is a unique element of their special connection, at times it is gifted with unusual supernatural elements. There is a lot of subjective data to support the notion; almost every set of twins can recount a story. Even so, being a twin has its advantages and disadvantages.
Firstly, twins are capable of developing trust between them. The possibility of sibling rivalry is minimal because the children develop comfort that each other from the time they were born and they feel curtailed without one another. They learn to share things and space mostly because they end up liking the same things because friends and family offer them identical gifts. Also, in kindergarten, twins someone who offers them feeling of security as they tend to protect each other. These early years are crucial in developing self-confidence of a child when the twin is nearby for support and enjoy joint victories and failures (Sabroe, & Inger 35).
Brain (307) noted that, most twins are very good friends and enjoy being in each other’s company. Their pool of associates is normally higher than that of other children as they share various acquaintances from different places. Maybe, it is this strength of friendship that brings others to the twins. This friendship tends to bring them together, and they can assist each other whenever one faces hardship of any kind. Research shows that being a teenage twin promotes a twin’s popularity.
However, one of the main drawbacks having a twin is that, society sees the twins as one person in most cases. They might call twins not by their names, but as "the wins”, and this affects twins because they are not capable of having their identity. Brain (308) also says that, twins who are brought up in an environment where one twin is referred as the good and the bad twin may dislike each other. This may be as a result of one of them being upset because they do not get similar treatment as other children.
