In a classroom setup, the teacher is the individual who disseminates knowledge while the student is the one who gains knowledge from the teacher. With such background information, it would be correct to say that the teacher should have more control in the classroom than the students. Teachers are known to be much more experienced than the students due to their age as compared to that of students. They are therefore in a position to make wise decisions than the students. Wise decisions in turn contribute to success since more informed decisions are made. The following theories support my thinking (Kinney, & Pòrhòlà 2009).
Newman, & Newman, (2012), affirmed that, Kohlberg’s theory of moral development argues that teenagers should be monitored closely so as to mould them morally. This makes them grow to be responsible adults. From this theory, when teenagers are properly guided, they develop healthy relationships with one another. The students get to develop high moral standards as a result of the guidance they receive from their teachers. They also get to be principled students. There is also Freud’s theory of psychosocial development. The energy that seeks pleasure among the students gets to be controlled by the teachers. There is also the Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development where students’ egos and trust issues are well controlled and molded by the teachers.
Classroom management refers to the situation where the behavior of students is controlled to create a learning atmosphere. First, I would emphasize on discipline. A class with high discipline levels performs well since the students are self driven. I would also put emphasis on creating healthy relationships amongst the students.
