Walden or Life in the Woods was written and published following the beginning of a second wave of transcendentalism in the 1840s. The core principles or beliefs of that movement act as the foundation of Walden. Thoreau’s philosophical ideology and deep regard for individualism fueled his passion to live an isolated life in a cabin embedded in Concord, Massachusetts. During the period of two years and two months living alone, he started writing Walden. The novel emphasizes on simple living that encourages spiritual perfection rather than a materialistic life that is built on accumulation and sorrow.
