Division and Analysis
Children need parental care and guidance while growing up. The care and guidance of both parents is important for the child’s future behavior. Both parents should ensure their child knows what is right and what is wrong. Additionally, the behavior and language employed by parents in front of the children matters a lot. However, fathers are assumed to be ignorant, harsh and cold to their children while mothers are favored as caring and responsible. In reference to “I Want a Wife” by Judy Brandy, women are described as hardworking doing all they can to better their families while men are just a burden, and that’s the reason she wants a wife. On the other hand, “Not All Men are Sly Foxes” by Amin A. Brotts describes the way men are portrayed with negative stereotypes. I will be using these two books to analyze my childhood in this essay.
I grew up with full parental care and guidance. Unlike the way men are portrayed in “Not All Men are Sly Foxes”, I had full support of my father and he was the one who played all the fatherly roles. The roles most fathers should play include providing security, financial support and outdoors lessons. Additionally, I never lacked what I wanted both at home and school as my father provided fully for me. According to Judy Brandy, men hinge on their wives everything making them irresponsible. My father was never like that.
However, I always relied on my mother for emotional support and guidance. I happened to be freer with her than any other person in the family as she was gentle and warm just as described in “Not All Men are Sly Foxes”. At all times, just like all mothers, she was ready to listen to my issues regarding different things concerning life and help me solve them. This made me be associated with her emotionally, vocationally and the general guiding and counseling. I had a responsible father, nevertheless, I may agree with Brotts that fathers may be harsh and cold and this may be the reason that made me to shy away from getting help from him.
According to Brandy’s “I Want a Wife”, it is mostly women who play the motherly role while men shun away from their responsibilities. I grew up in a different environment unlike what she talks about. Both parents in our family played the “motherly role” as they were all responsible. My mother did not have to do all the chores and be responsible too regarding all the household issues.
