English Language Learners
English language learners refer to learners who are not in a position to learn effectively by use of English language as well as communicate fluently in English. These groups of learners are majorly those from cultural group who do not use English as their primary language. English language learners always need specialized attention which is geared towards incorporating English as well as their native language so as to facilitate their learning. Their learning ability is not always up to standard to enable them perfectly fit in the American society or in their learning environment. This therefore has a great impact in them not meeting their academic potential. This is because in the American society and other societies that rely on English as a language to pass information may end up demoralizing such student’s as they undertake their studies in such environment which creates a language barrier. English language learners in elementary classrooms are always made to undergo a rigorous process in a bid to help them cope with learning in schools in the United States. Such learners are always given a formal assessment especially after they have gone through English literature elementary classes, after which they are tested further on writing, listening comprehension among others. All these are done so as to establish whether such learners may show a likelihood of struggling when it comes to them undertaking the regular academic courses mostly when proceeding from elementary level to the secondary level. In the event such learners show possibility of struggling they are always helped through enrolment to undertake a program in English as a second language or they are made to undertake courses on dual-languages (Colorнn Colorado). Secondly, even though English language learners are always seen to have undergone an English literature assessment in their elementary classroom and found to possess the ability to transition well into the regular academic program together with efficient language learners in elementary classrooms, it is a requirement by the federal government for the schools to do a close monitoring to such learners for a period not less than two years so as to identify whether they are coping well (Education Reform).
