Environment and Human Survival
Jeff Bezos’ assertion that customers are “divinely discontent” is consistent with the neoclassical theory as enumerated by Gowdy. Gowdy elucidates that modern economic theory is grounded in the belief that consumers have unlimited wants and limited resources to fulfil them (Gowdy XV). Neoclassical theory predicates the presence of scarcity arising from the mismatch between the consumption needs of the society and the resources available. Bezos’ idea on the absence of contentment in spite of the level of consumption is congruent with the neoclassical theories position on scarcity. No adequate resources are presently available to fully satisfy human needs.
