Environmental change has caused migration to have unprecedented trends over the years. Such phenomena like floods, prolonged droughts and storms have caused movement of people from their homeland to other regions they think are safe. For example in 2008, over twenty million people abandoned their homes due to devastating weather conditions across the world. This does not account for the 4.6 million who were internally displaced following the violence and internal conflicts that took place during that period CITATION Agh09 \l 1033 (Aghazarm and Laczko).
South Korea has not been an exception as environmental issues have had noticeable effects on migration. This is a country that has experienced extremely rough times when natural disasters strike. These disasters include earthquakes, tornadoes and tsunamis that are common in the region. Fearing for their lives, many Korean citizens have preferred to move to other countries where these ordeals are rare. This has caused massive outflow of migrants from the country to other safer countries. The strong winds that normally pass through the land which include hurricanes and cyclones are a cause to the migration trends found in the region. In the recent years, drought has struck the region causing very many people to look for better areas.
