Family and Health over Wealth
Amassing a lot of wealth used to rank very high on my priority list, until I came to found out that money is not everything. There is no point in being rich without health. There is no fun in driving a posh car while your back hurts from hours spent in front of a computer screen working. One cannot prosper without a family. A family brings one love, happiness, and societal respect. The realization that money is not everything has given me a well-rounded and non-materialistic perception of personal prosperity. If were to rank the three, I would rank health and family over material and financial gain, with family taking the highest pedestal.
According to healthcare professionals, the biggest regret that most people have on their deathbed is not spending enough time with their family. Very few people regret not amassing enough wealth or not spending enough time at work. I, therefore, recognize the importance of family. The time that one spends loving educating, listening to and mentoring their family is the greatest investment they can make in life. One of the biggest causes of family disharmony is money. It is, therefore, imperative to spend time educating one’s children on how to respect, manage and not to worship money. The education system fails in this area, so it should be taught around the family table. Being open about one’s experiences with money creates an unbreakable family bond. Making sure that the family is okay, well informed and well catered for should be everyone’s main goal. After all, these are the people who don’t leave in times of bad health and misery.
Good health is core to human happiness and overall well-being. While building strong family ties is important, being around long enough to enjoy the fruits of that effort priceless. We all have times of health and times of illness. A change of lifestyle sparks a proportionate change in the level of health. Apple mogul Steve Jobs died from cancer aged 56. Such a person would give a fortune to live another ten years and watch their families grow. It is important to restore the power of sleep, embrace healthy eating and an exercising lifestyle. More often than not, it takes a near death experience, like a heart attack, to deliver a wake-up call. To be happy, one should strive to maintain a balance in their physical, social, mental and spiritual health. A positive lifestyle behavior and attitude ensure an enhanced quality of life.
Money might not be as important as family and health, but without it, one would not maintain the two. Having a rudimentary understanding of money is imperative to keep one’s health as well as the wellness of their family....
