Name: Instructor: Course: Date: The Fan There is nobody can refute that games are part and portion of our life. Indeed, life is part of the game, and the whole world is a big playground. In life, every person may have been involved in taking part in sports and games, and it’s through sports and games that help us to overcome challenges, like health in our life. There are many different kinds of sports that people engage in and participate. For instance, there are indoor games such as Chess, Cards, and Ludo among others. Similarly, there is outdoors like Football, Hockey, Tennis, Volleyball among others which are the common games people likes. Sports and all kind of games are necessary for our lives, and they contribute to the development of personal qualities and character. They form a fundamental part especially in pupils and students in schools and contribute to balanced physical development and mind. Based on two essays “The Fan” by Eduardo Galeano and “Post-Game” by Jonathan Wilson, the writers elaborate on participation and involvement in Soccer, that is football and tennis. Though Eduardo and Jonathan narrate about Soccer, Jonathan talks more about the personal experience since he participated at Gladstone Park while he was in primary school making it more realistic in this paper, while Wilson speaks about the fans of the soccer. First, according to Jonathan essay, he speaks out of personal experience and involvement in soccer. He participated while he was young and how he even scored his first goal. He says “The cross came in from the right and I rose, instinctively rather than intentionally, to meet the worn tennis ball with my forehead. This is the difference between the players and the fans form the essay by Eduardo. Also, as from Post-game essay, sports in this case soccer had formed the fundamental part of the life of the player. According to Jonathan essay the player goal he scored still hang in his memory even after many years. Furthermore, soccer had made him meet and socialize with many people, visit many places, and interact with different people in the whole world. Therefore, the soccer had formed part of his life since the tender age. At the same time, Eduardo speaks of the fan who usually flee to stadiums to cheer their best clubs. This means that the fans do not participate in the games as players and may not participate fully in games and sports. Furthermore, based on the two essay the fan and post- game one can derive a point or argument that sports have a strong impact, force, and emotional feeling that influence our lives individually or as a group. According to Post –Game essay after scoring the goal, the writer said that “The sparkle and glisten of the goal stayed with me for the rest of the day, and have never entirely left me.” This shows the pronounced impact the sports or game can influence an individual mentally for a long time. Comparatively, based on the fan essay, by Eduardo in the second last paragraph, the writer says that “when the game is over, the fan, who has not moved the stands, celebrate his victory: ‘what a goal we scored’ or he cries over his defeat.” This shows the strong emotional feelings that soccer has on the fans and players too which makes them happy when they win or cries when they lose individually or as a team. Also, from the two essay, one can derive an argument that sports bring people together and become one group or team hence socializing. This is the reality since an individual cannot participate in sports alone or enjoy playing any game alone. According to the Post-Game essay, the write says that it’s the associative forms and also passions that used to hold him, meaning that soccer to him was a way of socializing. At school a...
