Fiction and Non-fiction Writing
Introduction
Fiction deals with imagination while the non-fiction deals with the reality. Most of the literature works incorporate both the fiction and the non-fiction aspect to help draw the attention of the reader. The fiction is based on an individual’s creativity while the non-fiction could be attributed to the ability of an individual to grasp the happenings around the world to enable him to provide the reality. This means that non-fiction demands a person to remain updated about the things which are taking place. This study aims to show that fiction is an extraordinary theme that is built out of creativity while non-fiction is just based on reality which is mostly not creativity. It will attempt to show how the fiction captures the attention of the readers since mostly is a bit funny and hilarious while non-fiction is bound to provide the relevant update of the happenings which are normal to the people or sometimes boring.
The fiction is mostly gravitating to hear since it is developed out of creativity and imagination. Most of the fiction writers ensure that their fiction work is enjoyable to read despite being unrealistic. They are mostly meant to entertain while the non-fiction work remains as informative. In his work, This Is How You Lose Her, Díaz Junot employs fiction. He writes, “You don’t even want to hear how it went down with Magda. Like a five-train collision. She threw Cassandra’s letter at me— it missed and landed under a Volvo— and then she sat down on the curb and started hyperventilating. Oh, God, she wailed. Oh, my God,” (4). This is a fiction work which is meant to entertain. The use of simile, “like a five-train collision” is meant to amplify the action that emerged and make it sink into the minds of the readers. This is a form of entertainment which is employed in fiction work. Most people prefer reading materials that make them happy as means of passing the time or keeping away some other minds. Also, there are readers who seek solace in reading after being stressed by the life circumstances. Such readers will find empathy if they read a hilarious book that will make them forget about the difficulties in their lives. On the other hand, the non-fiction works are bound to pass the message to the readers. It is the real message of the happenings whether it is appealing or not. As a result, only a few people find pleasure when reading such materials. Although they are good and can help to warn people in case of detected risks, they are just taken as informative but not enticing.
Fiction work is pure creativity of the writer. A fiction work may sometimes discuss something which is true or may be based on the writer’s imagination. The latter is the most common. In See You Again Yesterday, the writer employs both fiction and non-fiction. Sometimes it is hard to separate the two in literature work. Despite using creativity in writing, the reality of some events needs to be encompassed in the written work. “…You meet a guy, relinquish a tiny bit of control, and the next thing you know, you’re eating a different part of the pig,” (“See You Again Yesterday” 143)This is a good stipulation of a fiction work where the writer intends to express how things changed after an encounter with another person. It is paramount to note that, the fiction is mostly made up of stories and not facts. In the above excerpt, the writer has incorporated both fiction and non-fiction. Fiction is present when he mentions, “eating the different part of the pig” while non-fiction is based on the entire meaning of that statement. In the real sense, the writer meant that it is possible to meet a person whom you know very little but after a short while, you become close allies. This is something that happens in the real world hence the aspect of non-fiction can be felt in that excerpt. It is possible to meet a stranger, and after a short time you become close friends and behave like you have known each other for ages. It happens in the present world especially if the interests of the two people are affiliated. This thus is a depiction of the happenings that take place in the day to day life cycle. Therefore, it is possible to have a statement that incorporates the two concepts.
Some people argue that fiction writing is just for fantasy, but sometimes it is more than that. The fiction works communicate relevant information which is not only educative and enticing but also mind-boggling making the readers to increase their creativity. The fiction work has been criticized as falsework, and this might make some people conclude that it is unworthy and hence consider its elimination worthwhile. Eliminating the fiction work would be tantamount to abolishing education. Most of the fiction works are created by intellectuals. They develop the creativity after readily widely and later express their creativity in writing. Their work is thus not fantasy but the efforts of hard work as well as the fruits of their education. When reading a fiction work, a reader increases their imagination and creativity level. Also, he is able to appreciate the skills possessed by the writer. Sometimes fiction writing could form part of a competition for the writers. It helps to gauge the creativity level and the attraction a writer can have towards the readers. Basically, the fictional writing is an art. All the arts are known to be as a result of creativity. Fiction work encompasses crafting enticing stories while the non-fiction deals with providing facts. Zora Hurston provides an example of a fiction work in the form of a story. “I remember the very day that I became colored. Up to my thirteenth year, I lived in the little Negro town of Eatonville, Florida. It is exclusively a colored town. The only white people I knew passed through the town going to or coming from Orlando,” (Paragraph 2).He narrates a moving story of how he become colored and all the events that took place. It is a moving story that is well crafted....
