What is the future of American K- 12 educations?
To understand the future of K – 12 educations, there is a need to understand the present system and how it is being managed by the government. The term k-12 is a designation in the education system of America indicating sum of the primary and secondary education that every child must go through. It is a system that is used in America and other countries like Canada and Australia; this system of education requires that students or pupils complete 12 years in primary and secondary level of education prior to joining a university or college. The process might be accomplished either at public schools, or at private schools. Over centuries, there have been efforts by the Federal governments to improve this education systems for instance the flurry of education reform initiatives, which took the form of establishing standards and accountability in the education frameworks.
There has been introduction of state assessments on student achievement across the country under the slogan “No child Left Behind”. In my opinion there is a lot that needs to be done because the No child left behind philosophy has not been implemented comprehensively. Many students graduating from the American schools under the k-12 education system are not learning much because most of them are coming out with minimum knowledge and capability in comparison with their colleagues in other industrialized countries. There have been reports of violence by students in schools or criminal activities, which are, clearly depict that there are some problems with the American education system k-12 (Van Andel Education Institute 14).
How will you make an impact on this education system?
To make an impact on this system as individual is to contribute and participate in education and curricula workshops or seminars so as to pass my sentiments to the education stakeholders of America. Some of the cogent issues that should be look into include checking on the abnormal spending on education; America is one of the countries in the world that spend too much on the education but they are not intensifying the aspects of curricula and quality of that education.
What are the career possibilities for you in the field of education?
The fields of education have enormous career possibilities and my dream education job is to become curriculum administrator. This job basically pertain aspects like researching on curricula that are used in the American education structure, assess the relevance and appropriateness in the context of equipping students with skills to face the world and to progress academically. These jobs also involve management of curricula departments in education centers which include aspects like staff, equipments and properties.
