Gaining Values Using Technology
“Feed” by M.T. Anderson is a novel that shows a teenage boy known as Titus who has a transmitter in his brain. The book begins with a setting where Titus, Link, and Marty are having a great discussion on how to fun. The novel continues with stories about Titus in different settings. It also shows depicts a huge computer network that is connected to people’s brains and allows them to connect directly to digital databases. It also allows communication with others who are connected to the Feed network.
There is a great use of technology and gadgets that allow people to get connected to other people, information and also to the modern society. These gadgets are said to make the world a global village. The use of computers and mobile phones is very common nowadays such that everybody owns a mobile phone which eases communication and also gets people connected to the latest events in the world. People have become very reliant on technology that a world without technology could seem impossible. This is similar to the characters in the novel where the characters are dependent on technology. They always look upon the Feed gadgets that are implanted in their heads for the day to day activities. For instance, when the doctor is examining Titus and also the rest of the patients who have been affected by the virus, the doctor asks the nurse if the Feed was able to find a solution for the problem. (Anderson, 69). This shows that they were reliant for the Feed to provide a way forward and a solution which is similar to the current dependence on Google to provide all answers to our problems.
To some extent, the relationship with my friends is determined by the fact that my image is good on social media. I have to have great and awesome posts on social media so as to achieve a certain level of intelligence. I also have to know how to operate mobile phones. This is similar to the novel where Titus’ relationship with his girlfriend is dependent on what his relationship is with Violet’s dad. Or instance when he visits Violet and the dad gives a generous comment. (Anderson, 28). This shows that Violet's dad has a good image yet Titus has a very highly dependent on technology or his choices.
Currently, we tend to get more connected to the society and the people that are far away from us and in the meantime we get disconnected from the natural environment and the people around us. This is similar to the characters in the Feed where they have become disconnected from the world around them. For instance, when Titus implies that, when buying the gadget, he was trying to get close to what was flying but eventually when he gets to use them, it is like everything is fry...
