Killing Patton by Billy O’ Reilly Review
Billy O’ Reilly’s book Killing Patton: The Strange Death of World War II’s Most Audacious General, co-written by Martin Dugard, is a nonfiction piece of work which was published in September 2014 which is about the final year of World War II and the death of George Parton the general. It is a follow-up book in Billy O’Reilly's kill series which includes Killing Kennedy, Killing Lincoln and also Killing Jesus. Billy is addressing Americans about the events that took place on the life of General George Patton and how his demise came about to happen during the last year of the World War II. The book has been on a number of occasions criticized due to its considerable padding and chaotic structure where critics say that Billy’s books of kill series are not about new discovery events that penetrate the society.
However, some critics after reading the book had the thought that Billy’s book is an account of occurrences and all major and significant events from a blow to blow that happened in the World War II. Also, in his writing, Billy includes other off the battlefield lives in his work and this plays a major role in his narrative which is abundant with riveting battle scenes and fascinating details. In the details of the book, George Patton is said to have been assassinated because he had information that one future threat or crisis to America was the Soviet Union and America was capitalizing everything to them and that there was an order that the American troops hold back from entering Berlin from the west until soviet union troops got in from the east. Therefore, this information led to George Patton being assassinated and it was put as if he died from natural caused when he had a car accident or what they referred as a fender bender.
For example in a scene that takes place at a lunch meeting in a very luxurious hotel in London where Donovan, a character as a CIA, a former US Marine and member of Operation Jed burgh named Douglas Bazata, an enemy sabotage team met. Donovan explained to Douglas that he was having a problem and that problem was George Patton and Douglas, on listening to his complains about George’s disobedience, he offered to kill George Patton in a car accident disguise. Although there was no direct connection, Douglas’ close aide was a double agent and was requested to do the job of assassination for him and on the morning of December 9th, 1945, General George Patton was travelling with friends to a much-awaited hunting trip and another vehicle drove right in front of them and a collision happened, later on, the general was complaining of paralysis.
The general was taken to the hospital and would later on die and what followed were investigations that were official and some were independent, where the gathered information and reports usually went missing oddly because they did not want to let the people know the truth about the death of the general. Therefore the coroner’s report would say that General Patton died of natural causes and not an assassination as earlier stipulated. Moreover, the book brings to the reader more clues to a mysteries and the fact that, public figures that were honored in their lives an also in their funerals, rarely get a postmortem due to their reputation. But, on that note, may survey done by historian’s shows that, or rather says that Billy O’Reilly and Martin Dugard show no evidence of whether this death was as are a result of an assassination of it was an accident. Billy suggests with certainty that General George Patton was possibly poisoned while still recovering from the automobile accident he encountered on December 8th, 1945, on the orders given by a Soviet named Joseph Stalin to prevent him from giving the information to the Americans to warn ...
