The Likes and Dislikes of Poetry
Although poetry is highly regarded by some individuals, many people do not find it an interesting piece of literature. A majority of persons do not read or write poetry and find the idea of doing so as a waste of valuable time. Nevertheless, poetry has existed for many years to portray and communicate various feelings and messages. It is important to examine the differing opinions of the two groups. Albeit I do love poems, the essay will give evidence for the two subjective opinions on poetry.
The complexity of some poems makes it enjoyable for readers to decipher. In my opinion, poetry aids us to learn how to simplify complexity (Alexander, 3). Just as there are simplified poems regarding complex environments, multifaceted poems challenge us to make sense of the message being communicated. However, many people dislike this for such poems do not make sense to them. Poetry is written so as to be understood. Therefore, people should take the time to comprehend the concept behind a poem.
From the numerous poems I encountered, I realized that poets freely express their message using various words. The author is allowed to use words that do not necessarily express their actual meaning. I love poetry for it enables the author to be creative in their use of words. I believe poetry forces an individual to concentrate so as to emotionally connect to an author’s intended message (Parini,132).
