Review Of A Movie Released In 2014, Chef
Success of any movie in the market is its ability to communicate, appeal or seek to identify with a situation or people in the society. Additionally, most movies capture the daily living behaviors of the people. Chef (2014) is a comedy that is based on the life of Chef Carl Casper. He works at a restaurant and his culinary expertise is the best. He is likeable by all the other employees at the Los Angeles restaurant. The comedy movie is worthwhile to watch as the charming cast of Casper and the others leave people laughing at their ingenuity. Jon Favreau wrote and directed the comedy. Carl is bored by the routine business of cooking the same type of food. A fierce critic and blogger, Ramsey Michel, criticize his food. Carl cannot put up with the routine work, thus decided to quit his job. Moreover, this movie is quite appealing because it is sympathetic, entertaining, engaging, informational, as well as simple to comprehend and has a sense of humor.
The movie begins with a compelling story where Chef Carl is operating from a lavish restaurant. In addition, the foods made in the kitchen are appealing and increases the appetite of the viewer. To this end, one is able to see the culinary expertise of Chef Carl. Holden posits that the movie takes account of the delicious food, which is being prepared, served and devoured (para.1). The movie focuses on the reality of cooking by highlighting how the normal operations of a restaurant are undertaken. Indisputably, the culinary comedy is appetizing. The scenes of the movie have been selected with much focus on food and musical culture. As such, the movie has proven to be quite realistic, as it reflects the lives of chef and other workers in the society. Importantly, the role-played by Chef Carl best described how bosses treat their workers. Most chefs come up with brilliant ideas. However, because the bosses are used to a given routine, it becomes difficult for the chefs to introduce innovative menus. His resolve to start over again, makes the movie worth watching given that the comical scenes leaves one laughing.
A top food critic, Ramsey Michel, ensures that he does a poor review of Chef Carl’s food. Collinson asserts that Carl is embroiled in a social media battle with Ramsey (para.2). This criticism angers Carl who decides to berate him at the restaurant. Surprisingly, this episode is filmed and goes viral. The chef becomes an overnight sensation. These scenes make the movie entertaining in the sense that it connects people to the realities of life. Other casts also supplement the entertaining bits of the movie. Entertainment is not only captured in the kitchen but also in the daily life of Carl. Initially, he has not shown his good side of being a father. However, through his culinary expertise, he is able to sustain a meaningful relationship with his son, Percy. In the track that he uses to make food and sell the cuisine to the populace, he is accompanied with martin and the entire period of selling food through the truck is full of exciting scenes.
The movie has offered varying lessons. For instance, Chef Carl tries to mend his relationship with Percy by teaching him how to be a good chef. Holden connotes that the movie exalts the superiority of inexpensive real food that is served on the street of the real people found in the American melting pot (para.5). Crucial is that the movie does not go for the high-end meals found in the expensive hotels but rather the normal foods consumed by majority of the population. This indicates that the movie was designed to appeal to the normal lives of the people. If people do not identify with a given item, the propensity to reject it is high. In this situation, the cast goes for the foods that are easy to cook and are liked by many. By watching the movie, one cannot help but salivate as the food is prepared and served. The movie also utilizes innovative recipes that can be beneficial to anyone interested in following the procedure of cooking. With a lean budget, the comedy ends up cracking one as the stunts carried out through the movie are worth the time. Remarkably, his abilities to cook make the movie even more outstanding. An entire family can watch the scenes as there are hardly any derogatory scenes.
Outstandingly, the plot of the movie has captured many aspects of today’s living. The relationship between Carl and Inez is rejuvenated after Carl falls out with his boss. Carl is adventurous and his willingness to sell food in Los Angeles and Miami takes a better part of him. The importance of learning more than one language comes to the fore, as Carl cannot speak Spanish. Amazingly, his culinary abilities and interpersonal skills endear him to the locals. It is so common that in the society, people are looked down upon based on their race, religion, financial status and other factors. Holden contends that the day laborers ignored Carl when he asked them for help to set up the track (Para. 8). In realization of the modern family, the producers of the movie ensured that they incorporated multiculturalism through salsa mixes, country blues and soul music having the Caribbean styles. Incredibly, these elements make the movie engaging, sensitive to the needs of other people and worth to watch.
During the drive, Percy promotes the food truck through the social media. This part captures the emerging use of social media as a medium of communication as well as a promotional tool that seeks to spread information to a wider audience through the online platform. Through this campaign, the truck became popular in Austin, Texas and New Orleans where Carl used different loca...
