Odysseus Is a True Hero
The understanding of a hero varies among different people. In fact, some people think that a hero is a robust individual bragging around seeking recognition. Often, it may resonate with others to describe a hero as an individual with super strength or ability to fly. Instead, a hero is a generous, selfless, loyal and wise leader. More specifically, a hero is an individual who has the courage to face danger to rescue another person in need of exceptional help. Ordinary people may avoid danger to stay safe. On the contrary, heroes are often aware of the risks of the situation at hand but they have enough boldness to stay on course. The main character, Odysseus is a hero because he is wise, overcomes many difficulties throughout his journey and remains loyal to his family.
The wisdom that Odysseus used during the journey in the Trojan War is a key element of his heroism. In the Trojan War, he was leading the Greeks in a battle. At some point, the Greeks had lost hope and thought that conquering the city of Troy would have been an exercise in futility. During this time, Odysseus thought of a trick that restored the confidence and hopes of the Greeks to conquer the city. Under the leadership of Odysseus, the Greeks built a big wooden structure of a horse and located it at the entrance of Troy. Dramatically, the Trojans who were lured to believe that it symbolized surrender from their enemies took the horse. The wooden horse housed Greek warriors who kept hiding until the Trojans fell asleep and they burned the city of Troy. When this tricky was successful, the Greeks described Odysseus a hero who would conquer anybody using his exceptional wisdom.
While Odysseus and his men were on their journey home, they encountered a man-eating cyclops, which he overcame and proved to be a hero. The cyclops also called Polyphemus threatens to kill the Greeks and this time Odysseus faced death with courage. In fact, the Polyphemus swallowed some of the crewmates. Odysseus troubled with the situation, he lured the cyclops into drinking wine. When the cyclops got drunk, Odysseus took advantage and said his name was "Nobody" which later worked as an exit strategy.
