Introduction
Racial discrimination among police is a major issue. There has been a great difference in police interaction between members of different races. Black people and white people are not treated the same way when they are in patrols or doing stop and frisk. Stop and frisk is an act which is allowed by law in police department where a police is supposed to stop a person on streets due to uncertainties. During this time, black people are mistreated and if they fail to comply, they are mistreated or jailed. On the other hand, white people are well treated with respect and if they fail to comply, they are not mistreated. Many cases continue to be reported of police who mistreat black people with no valid reasons. The paper will discuss the topic in regard to the information in different materials.
Driving as a black person has also become a problem. Police mainly stop vehicles which are driven by black people (Donohue & Levitt, 2001). If they are found guilty of breaking any traffic rule, they are mistreated and difficult charges are placed on them. On the other hand, white drivers are hardly stopped by police. If they are stopped, they are handled with respect and no hard charges are placed on them whenever they are found guilty of breaking some of traffic rules (Dixon, Schell, Giles & Drogos, 2008).
Conclusion
In conclusion, research indicates that racial minorities have for a long time been mistreated during interaction with law enforcement agencies which includes police officials. Different racial communities have been complaining that they have not been receiving positive feed backs during their interaction with police. Police have not been complying with the law which advocates for equal treatment among all members of the society. This has led to distrust lack of legitimacy in police department.
