As a supervisor, it needs managerial skills in order to lead a group of people who all have different personalities. Some people may or may not be willing to interact well with each other something which is not an easy task. Therefore for one to be successful and considered as good supervisor, certain qualities and skills are needed and they are as follows:
Excellent communication and presentation skills; you need to give instructions very clearly so that everyone gets each part clearly in order to avoid mistakes. You also need to listen with a keen interest to what your employees tell you. The best way to make sure someone has understood your instructions is to ask them to repeat what you had said earlier in their own words. This simple technique avoids many misunderstandings between you and your employees.
Diplomacy and social skills; It is very important to observe courteousness at all times. For instance, when you have to fire off someone, you should do it with a lot of assertiveness but politely and never do it in front of other people. Everyone makes mistakes and nobody could wish to be humiliated. Note that it is not good to shout at people because they will become resentful and unhappy.
Accountability is another essential quality for a supervisor. People commits mistake, and once a mistake has been made, a good supervisor should be in a position to acknowledge responsibility unless the victim has done by deliberately disobeying instructions.
