The Epic of Gilgamesh Synopsis (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

Anu, the goddess of creation, creates a twin for Gilgamesh who would be able to stand up to him and save Uruk. Enkidu, a hairy wild guy who lives in the wilderness with the animals, is created by Anu. His body is pure until he has sex with Shamhat, at which point it is "defiled". In her own way, Uta-wife napishti's is godlike. Her section of the book reveals several elements that make her one of the more interesting bits of evidence in my theory.
She does not request this of her spouse; rather, she demands it. The experiences and power that women have in the text are not limited to the individual. Not only that, but it was only ever a problem when it began to afflict women: "It is he who is the shepherd of Uruk-the-Sheepfold."

Content:

Gilgamesh is the city of Uruk's Priest-King. He is a tyrannical monarch who toils his subjects to death in order to get what he desires. He kills young males at will and manipulates women as he sees fit. Uruk's people pray to the gods for help so that they can live in peace. The gods hear them and tell Anu, the goddess of creation, to create a twin for Gilgamesh who would be able to stand up to him and finally save him. Enkidu, a hairy wild guy who lives in the wilderness with the animals, is created by Anu.

The absence of Shamhat after bringing Enkidu to Uruk was used as an example in this discussion. She gives Enkidu the information he needs to speak and transports him to Uruk before disappearing from the story. Shamhat's acts and the disappearance of her persona appear to fit the feminist stance at first glance.
