1. Explain the importance/significance of Richard Allen.
2. Explain the importance/significance of the cotton gin and "King Cotton" in regards to black enslavement.

4. Explain the "second Middle Passage," and explain the ways in which it increased the vulnerability of black enslaved women, and various forms of control on the plantations.

The significance of Richard Allen
He was one of the active Americans and an influential Black leader who founded the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), which was the first denomination of the people of color in the US. The church was opened in Philadelphia in Pennsylvania (25:06). He became the first Bishop in 1816, and his primary focus was on coming up with denominations where the Black people would have the freedom of worship without racial oppression so that the enslaved people would find their dignity. Together with Absalom Jones, they brought the Black awakening through the founding of the AME and the Bethel church for the people of color (24:08).
The Benefits of the cotton gin and the King Cotton based on the Black enslavement
The King Cotton, which was a famous phrase before the American civil war, indicated the political and economic need for cotton production. The significance of the cotton-growing is that it made the US fertile land to be extraordinarily valuable. The growth of more cotton meant an increase in demand for the slaves, and they became of value just like the commodities in the region hence the establishment of the African enslavement (28:05).
