The Power of Positive Thinking
Although the structure for the association between positivity and health is still misty, researchers and psychologists, alike, concur that a robust link exists between the two. Positive thinking harmonizes body systems improving their functionality and durability. Positive thinking drastically changes one’s outlook on life, soothes the body, and harmonizes body systems due to its aptitude to combat stress that disharmonizes the body’s nerve system – the brain.[Durability herein refers to the duration of optimal functioning without interruptions from diseases, stress or other debilitating conditions. Positive thinking keeps stress related conditions at bay for the body to function better. Boyraz and Lightsey (267) state that “negative automatic thoughts that arise when deep beliefs (also termed schemata) are activated by stressful events affect stress-related coping and adaptation.” Reduced coping and increased stress inhibit mental optimization due to pre-occupation with stress, which impacts how the body functions as the brain is the hub of all operations.]
