Candide is a satire book written by Voltaire, a French philosopher during a period known as enlightenment in 1759. The novel candid was arguably the most important philosopher during the enlightenment. He had one of the greatest works in the eighteenth century. The book was written when Voltaire was 64 and famous. Quakes play a part in the section, and they were fresh in peoples’ minds. There were two earthquakes of the time, in 1746 in Lima and 1755 in Lisbon.The story cores around the philosophical concept linked with the prominent German philosopher, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. He alleged that this is the absolute perfection of all possible worlds. The book, though, is a satire in which Voltaire is not so much fine-tuning the philosophical idea, but the more popular and completely unfitting public interpretation of Leibnitz’s work
In the eighteenth-century, women were faced with an organized rejection of their most significant human rights and proficiency through the institutions of the time. These same societies were the substances of the disapproval of the philosophes. Voltaire is generally documented as the father of the Enlightenment. In examining candid’s context of western thought, It is clear that the work is highly critical of many social institutions of the time he is merely pointing out flaws in the society. Views supporting during the period of the French revolution about the rights of women were many. It is observed that even Voltaire did not always hold opinions aligned with such ideas.
When it came to gender roles within society in the 18th-century, women enjoyed very few privileges. Voltaire exposes the stark inequality in the satirical Candide, primarily via the lack of many female characters in the novel and his characterization of Cunegonde, Paquette, and the Old Woman.
