An Analysis of Struggle for Modern Tibet
Introduction
In the 1950s, there was a conflict between the Chinese and the Tibetan people. China invaded Tibet in a bid to make it part of its nation. The people’s liberation army of China invaded Tibet, a plan that had been set up by Deng Xiaoping and other senior officials in the Communist government. During the same time, there was a civil war in Korea, thus the international community did not give the Tibet invasion much attention. The Tibetan government whose headquarters was in Lhasa made several appeals to the United States and British governments for help, but it did not succeed. The Chinese government was determined to liberate Tibetan people and wipe out any imperialists in the society. In carrying out an analysis of the struggle for the modern Tibet, this paper looks at the autobiography of Tashi Tsering. He was a Tibetan and a nationalist who wanted to see Tibet develop into a great nation.
Tashi narrated his story to William Siebenschuh and Melvyn Goldstein. The autobiography shows the struggles that the Tibetan people went through and the traditions that made them lag behind in development. The book provides a picture of the Tibetan society. It provides a description of the relationship between the ruling elite and the commoners before the communists intervened. The book also talks about the historical relationship between China and Tibet in modern times. This paper is aimed at evaluating the barriers to the quick development of the Tibetan people.
